Hinton' s Career-Day Leads PSUGA at Blue Course Invitational

State College, PA. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny Golf team made their second trip up to University Park on the year when they competed in the Blue Course Invitational on Monday. They finished ninth out of 12 teams scoring a 368 and having three golfers finish with scores under 90.

Leading the way was the team's lone senior Bert Hinton (Richmond, VA./Benedictine College Prep) who shot a season-low 84 on the day. His performance lowers his season average to 87.6 as he prepares for the Penn State University Athletic Conference/United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Championships.

Hinton won't be the only one representing PSUGA as freshman Justin Wortman (Ashburn, VA./Briar Woods HS) and Sean Murphy (Churchill, PA./Woodland Hills HS) continued to make their cases for the tournament each scoring an 87 on the course. Wortman and Murphy have consistently scored in the mid 80's this season rounding out the top three qualifiers for PSUGA.

One golfer who was trying to qualify was freshman Angie Nylander (Elizabeth, PA./Elizabeth Forward HS), who entered Monday with an average of 108.7. She finished the day with a 110 increasing her season average to an even 109. Nylander needs to bring her season average down to 105 and with one more meet remaining she has the chance to do that on her home course.

Taylor Coccia (Elizabeth, PA./Elizabeth Forward HS) and Alex Myers (Oswego, NY./Oswego HS) rounded out the day scoring a 117 and a 126 respectively. Both continue to improve as the 2019 season comes to an end.

The PSUGA Gold team has one more invitational in the 2019 season as they play on their home course for the first time since the reinstatement of the program. The Youghiogheny Country Club will be the site of Thursday's invitational as PSUGA looks to gey four qualifiers for Nationals for the first time in program history.

The PSUGA Golf team will tee off for the inaugural PSUGA Invitational at 12 p.m.
