McKeesport, Pa. – The #11 Penn State Greater Allegheny Soccer Team (9-3, 7-2) ended the regular season in grand fashion collecting an 8-0 victory over Penn State Worthington Scranton (2-7, 2-6). It was a special game as the seniors and 2+2 players were honored before the game for their time at PSUGA.
Many of those seniors finished their regular season play in a big way as PSUGA scored the second most points they have scored all season long. Senior Jake Theiret (Port Vue, Pa./South Allegheny) picked up his second hat trick of the season leading the way with three goals on the day. Marin Marina (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) collected his team leading 10th and 11th goals of the season and Belmo Nurkic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) added two goals of his own in the victory.
The offense was alive early for PSUGA as six of their eight goals came in the first half of play. That allowed everyone on the roster to see some playing time and contribute to the win. PSUGA was able to outshoot Worthington Scranton in the contest 36-13 and also had more shots on goal tallying 25 to Worthington Scranton’s 7.
Colin Buscok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) got back to his old ways in net after two rough games to record his seventh shut-out of the season. Buscok was not tested much as he collected just four saves on the day on the four shots on goal that he faced.
PSUGA now looks ahead to the Penn State University Athletic Conference Playoffs which get started on October 28th. It is looking like PSUGA will slip in as the number three seed and would host the number six seed. If they would come out victorious in that matchup, they would go on to play the number two seed in the Semi-final round on October 30th. The PSUAC Championships will be held on November 1st at the Penn State Main Campus at 6:00 p.m.
It has been a historic season for PSUGA so far as they collected the most wins in conference play in program history. They got off to a 5-0 start in conference, which was also the best start in history. However, they are not satisfied as now they look to make a deep run in the PSUAC playoffs and bring home a PSUAC Championship.
