Soccer Routs WCCC in the Rain

McKeesport, Pa. – The #11 Penn State Greater Allegheny Soccer Team (7-1, 5-0) completed a rout of Westmoreland County Community College (0-9, 0-3) on Thursday winning by the final score of 10-0.

This one was over halfway through the first as PSUGA jumped out to a 4-0 lead just 18 minutes into the ball game as Jake Theiret (Port Vue, Pa./South Allegheny) scored two goals and Marin Marina (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) and Nick Andrews (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) each added goals.

It would not stop there as Jake Theiret completed the hat trick with another goal at the 25th minute to make it 6-0. Then the subs started to come into the game as things got out of hand. Roshan Sharma (Pittsburgh, PA) came in and scored in his first second of play as he received the corner kick from Nick Andrews and headed the ball into the net for his first goal of the season. Belmo Nurkic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) and Nate Andrews (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) would finish the scoring each collecting a goal to make it 10-0.

PSUGA possessed the ball in their offensive zone for most of the game and the shot ratio reflected that as PSUGA outshot WCCC 57-6. The only real scoring chance for WCCC came on a penalty kick which Sophomore Goalkeeper Alexa Beyers (Spring Creek, Pa./Corry Area High School) dove to her right to save and keep the shut-out going. Beyers finished the game with four saves as she came in for Colin Buscok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jeffersonn) who had only one shot against him in the first half.

PSUGA is having a historic season as they are now 7-1, the best start in school history. They have clinched their fourth consecutive trip to the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoffs and are now playing to try and capture the number one overall seed.

PSUGA is back in action on Saturday as they take on #9 Penn State Brandywine in a huge conference game. Both teams are perfect in conference play sitting at 5-0 as they are playing for the top spot in the standings. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at PSU-Brandywine.
