Shutout Extends Soccer’s Win Streak to Three

Youngwood, Pa. – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Soccer Team (3-1, 2-0) continued its winning ways on Thursday as they picked up a 4-0 win over Westmoreland County Community College (0-5, 0-2) to extend their win streak to three straight games.

PSUGA found offensive opportunities early and often and used that to their advantage throughout the game. They lead 3-0 at halftime thanks to two goals from Junior Belmo Nurkic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) and a goal from Senior Jake Theiret (Port Vue, Pa./South Allegheny). It was the third game in a row that the soccer team had gone into half time with a lead. Senior Marin Marina (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) would add a goal of his own in the second half to help solidify the victory for PSUGA.

Colin Bucsok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) had another great game in net as he collected his third win of the season and his second collegiate shutout playing a total of 60 minutes in net. Sophomore Alexa Beyers (Spring Creek, Pa./Corry Area HS) played the last 30 minutes of the contest and made the only save of the day as it was the only shot on goal for WCCC.

With the win, PSUGA is now 3-1 on the season and has one their last three contests. The 3-1 start is the best start for the team through the first four games since the 2015/16 season when they started out with the same 3-1 mark. In that season, they made it to the PSUAC Championships where they would eventually fall to Penn State Beaver by the score of 2-1.

Marin Marina has now scored a goal in every contest of the season for PSUGA and leads the team with seven total goals on the season. Belmo Nurkic has scored in back-to-back games and is second on the team with three goals in four contests.

The PSUGA Soccer Team plays their home opener this Sunday when they are set to take on Penn State Schuykill at 1 p.m. They will look to start 3-0 in conference play for the first time in school history.
