PSUGA Soccer Picks Up Big Win in Final Seconds of Overtime

McKeesport, PA. – It came down to the final seconds on Saturday, but the PSUGA soccer team pulled out a big 2-1 victory over Penn State Scranton (0-3, 0-1). After 90 minutes of a tie ball game , PSUGA took advantage of their opportunities and scored a goal just 48 seconds before the clock expires.

 

With 48 seconds left on the second overtime clock senior Jagesh Subba (Pittsburgh, PA./Baldwin HS) got the ball at midfield. He took a shot and it bounced off of a Scranton player and found its way into the net giving PSUGA the 2-1 win. It was a hard fought contest on both sides but PSUGA found a way to get the last points in the end.

 

Subba also started the scoring on the day coming to the line for a penalty kick  and put it in the bottom right corner of the net to give PSUGA the 1-0 lead with 25 minutes left in the first half. PSU-Scranton got on the board six minutes later when Kyle Davies broke free and got a shot off that found the back of the net and tied the game at two.

 

PSUGA outshot PSU-Scranton by 46-9 setting a new program record for shots in a game.  Subba led the way with a program record 16 shots and Prajal Sharma (Pittsburgh, PA./Baldwin HS) finished right behind him with eight shots and nearly got a shot off on the final play of the game.

 

With the win, PSUGA now improves to 2-0 in conference play and has started the year off on a bright note after slipping up in the first game. Colin Bucsok (Pittsburgh, PA./Thomas Jefferson HS) saved six shots on the day and now tied the program record for career wins picking up his 11th win of the season.
