PSUGA Men’s Soccer Named Number 4 Seed as PSUAC Playoff Field is Set

McKeesport, Pa. – With the end of the 2018-2019 Men’s Soccer regular season on Saturday, the Penn State University Athletic Conference Playoff Tournament field was officially announced on Monday. The Penn State Greater Allegheny Men’s Soccer team (7-4-2, 4-3-2) has been named the number four seed and will host Penn State York (4-5-2, 4-3-2) on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Breisinger Field.

PSUGA clinched the number four seed thanks to a forfeit from PSU-Lehigh Valley that dropped them to 4-5 on the season. It is the fifth straight season that PSUGA has clinched a playoff berth as they look for their first ever PSUAC Championship and their first appearance in the PSUAC Championship game since the 2015-2016 season.

PSUGA ended the regular season with a loss to PSU-Beaver on Saturday 2-1. Beaver took its first lead of the game in the 23rd minute when Danylo Yakymov scored the first goal of the game to make it 1-0. After a hour and 26 minute lightning delay, Prajal Sharma (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) would score the lone goal for PSUGA off of a pass from Jagesh Subba (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) to make it a 1-1 game. Beaver would end the contest in the 65th minute when Yakymov scored his second goal of the game and gave PSU-Beaver the 2-1 win.

The loss dropped PSUGA to 4-3-2 in conference play and all but guaranteed them the number four seed in the playoffs. As the number four seed, PSUGA will not receive a bye week like they did last season and it would take three wins for them to claim their first ever PSUAC Championship. With PSUGA falling on the right side of the bracket, that means they would have to beat #5 seed PSU-York and #1 seed PSU-Brandywine to make it to University Park on October 31st.

The left side of the bracket features #6 seeded PSU-Lehigh Valley in their first season as a program taking on #3 seeded PSU-New Kensington on Wednesday. The winner of that game will face #2 seeded PSU-Beaver for a chance to go to University Park. The winner of the PSUAC Championship has a guaranteed bid to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Tournament from November 7th – November 12th in Virginia Beach, VA.

Kickoff for Wednesday’s PSUAC Quarterfinal matchup between #5 PSU-York and #4 PSUGA is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Breisinger Field located at 410 E. Bruceton Road, Pittsburgh, PA.
