PR’s Galore for PSUGA at Dave Labor Invitational

McKeesport, PA. – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Track and Field team competed in their second spring meet of the season when they traveled to the Slippery Rock Dave Labor Invitational on Saturday. PSUGA continued to get better both on the track and the field as every athlete posted better times/distances than they did in the previous meet just over two weeks ago competing against teams in all three divisions of the NCAA.

The day started on the track with the women’s event as Eladia Kennedy (Pittsburgh, PA./Imani Christian Academy) got things started in the 100-Meter Dash. She finished 31st overall in the field with a time of 13.84 setting a new season high by almost a full second. She then competed in the very next event as part of the Women’s 200-Meter Dash and finished 45th with a time of 28.51, posting the same time as she did two weeks ago.

The women would keep things going as play shifted to the field with Kristina Sequeria (Norwalk, CT./Brien McMahon HS) serving as the only competitor in the women’s shot put. She set a new season high tossing 6.84 meters and finishing 39th overall. On the men’s side for the throwers, Cameron Shaw (South Park, PA./South Park HS) and Jalen Bolger (Philladelphia, PA./Philadelphia Electrician Technical Charter School) competed with Bolger tossing a 7.28 meter while Shaw upped his season record with a 6.80 meter toss good for 26th and 27th place respectively.

Things would head back to the track as Makis Rivera (Pittsburgh, PA./Imani Christian Academy) once again shined in the 800-Meter Dash for PSUGA. He came in 34th overall in the field and improved his time by a full seconds running a 2:08.33 beating out competitors from Point Park, Cal-U, and Waynesburg among others.

James Plez (Philadelphia, PA./Northeast HS) led the short distance runners competing in both the 100-Meter and 200-Meter on the men’s side. He also set season highs finishing 37th in the 100-Meter coming in at 12.18 seconds while finishing 39th in the 200 with a time of 24.92. Plez kept his big day going competing in the Long Jump for the first time in his career and being the top finisher for PSUGA coming in at 21st with a distance of 5.63 meters.

PSUGA continues to improve meet in and meet out in their first year as a program under head coach Greg Schmitt. With so many athletes setting season records in their second meet of the outdoor season, PSUGA is trying to get ready for the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Nationals in Vermont in a little less than three weeks.

The PSUGA Track & Field team returns to the track on Saturday, April 13th, when they travel to the Westminster Invitational beginning at 9 a.m.
