The 2019-2020 season will be Greg Schmitt's first full season as the Head Cross Country and Track & Field coach at Penn State Greater Allegheny. He was hired on January 4th 2019 and hit the ground running as he built a championship caliber Track & Field roster.

In his first season, he led a first year Track & Field program to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National meet, bringing seven athletes with him competing across nine different events. All seven athletes made it to the finals of their events and PSUGA would also score the school's first-ever USCAA National Champions. Eladia Kennedy took the title in the 100-Meter Dash with a time of 14.02 seconds while her brother Makis Rivera was the National Champion in the 800-Meter run with a time of 2:08.91.

Schmitt comes to PSUGA with over 10 years of coaching experience and several years of professional running experience. Prior to his appointment as head Track & Field Coach at PSUGA, Schmitt served as the head track & field and Cross Country coach for Carlow University from 2015-2017. While at Carlow, he helped build the innaugural track & field team during the 2017-2018 season. While at Carlow he also coached the Cross Country team and led his team to an 8th place finish in the River State Conference Championship and had a finisher in the top 20.

Prior to being named the head coach at Carlow, Schmitt spent five seasons as the head cross country coach at Laurel High School. While with the Spartans, Schmitt coached 29 PIAA qualifiers, four medalists, as well as two individual WPIAL Champions and 14 different medalist.

Schmitt has been an avid runner since high school and was a member of the track & field team and won letters in two seasons. After graduating from Youngstown state Schmitt would go on to qualify for the USA 15K National four times and the USA 25K National one time for the seeded race.
