GA Softball Falls to Brandywine

Media, Pa. - Through a set of Penn State University Athletic Conference matches, the Penn State Greater Allegheny softball team squandered through two games by tallies of 8-0 and 16-1 over Penn State Brandywine, Saturday afternoon. 

Brandywine dropped four runs in the bottom of the first before three more in the bottom of the third, Brandywine up 7-0. Senior first baseman Kelli Hall (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport Area) managed the lone single in the top of the second but was followed by three GA outs. The eighth and final run for game one came in the bottom of the sixth, capping game one at a 8-0 Greater Allegheny disadvantage.

Hall finished game one going 1-for-2 as she was left on base. Junior right-handed pitcher Shelby Bendick (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport Area) pitched game one, as she saw 27 batters through five innings, sitting down two on strike-outs.

Game two opened with two runs marked by Brandywine in the bottom of the first as they piled on 14 runs in the bottom of the second, a quick 16-0 advantage for the home team. The top of the third opened with a Hall triple before Bendick reached first on an error, batting in Hall for the lone GA run on the day, finishing the game after three innings of action, 16-1 Brandywine. 

Hall went 1-for-2 as she notched one run as Bendick also went 1-for-2, batting in the lone run on the day. Sophomore third baseman Marina Rinaldi (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia High School for Girls) and freshman right-fielder Emily Taylor (Aliquippa, Pa./Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter) went 1-for-1 through the final game of the day.

Greater Allegheny (0-9, 0-6) look onward to continue their Penn State University Athletic Conference weekend with the baseball team as the two travel to Penn State Schyulkill, Sunday afternoon. The women are set for a game one first pitch at 12 p.m.
