Myrtle Beach, SC – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Softball Team (1-3, 0-0) faced some tough competition on day 2 of their Myrtle Beach Trip falling to Lackawanna College 15-4 and USC Salkahatchie 8-1. Pitching struggled against two of the better teams at the tournament and the offense failed to get anything started.

In game one of the day, Lackawanna College used a high powered offense to score seven runs in the first inning to take the early advantage. PSUGA would get a run in the bottom half of the first inning as Alyssa Guzzie (Fox Chapel, Pa./Fox Chapel) got on base and eventually came around to score.

Lackawanna responded by putting up two runs in both the second and third innings, while scoring three runs in the fourth to cap off their day. PSUGA scored in each of the last two innings before the mercy rule went into effect as Guzzie and Lacie Lautner (Pleasant Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) both came around in the fourth and Hayley Maksin (Port Vue, Pa./South Allegheny) drove in Ivy Mervis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice HS) for the games final run in the fifth.

After a dominant performance on day 1 of Myrtle Beach, Taylor Love (Chandler, Az./Campo Verde HS) ran into some struggles in her second game in a Lion uniform surrendering all 14 runs on 20 hits in her four innings of work. The Chandler, AZ native is coming off her first start where she gave up just four runs in seven innings.

The second half of the doubleheader didn’t go much better for PSUGA as they fell to USC Salkahatchie 8-1 in seven innings. Fielding struggles were the name of the game as Salkahatchie was able to grab two inside the park home runs on fly balls to the outfield. Once again PSUGA could not gather a consistent offensive attack and it eventually led to their third loss of the season.

PSUGA softball is back in action for their final day of competition at Myrtle Beach on Thursday. They start the day with a battle against Grand Rapids CC at 1 p.m. and wrap up facing Henry Ford CC at 3 p.m.
