Softball Looks to Get Back on Track Vs. Mont Alto

McKeesport, PA. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny Softball team (0-8, 0-8) has seen its fair share of ups and downs so far in 2019. However, they look to put all of that behind them when they go on the road to start a four-game series with PSU-Mont Alto on Saturday at 2 p.m. with doubleheader action.

Despite starting 0-8 in Penn State University Athletic Conference play, there have been many positives for the softball team to this point in the season. Their offense greatly improved over the weekend combining to score seven runs in the four-game series with PSU-DuBois last weekend. They started the series with a 14-4 loss and ended with a 17-3 loss putting up their best offensive performance to date.

PSUGA was able to jump out to a lead in the first game of the series scoring single runs in the first and second and adding two more in the third to jump out to a 4-1 lead. However, the big inning came back to hurt them as Dubois answered with 11 runs in the bottom of the third putting the game out of reach. It was the start of a big weekend for freshman Holly George (Homer City, PA./Homer-Center HS) who went 1-1 with a walk and an RBI.

After being shutout in the next two, PSUGA came back again in the series finale putting up three more runs in a 17-3 loss. PSUGA once again got out to a lead with a run in the second and two in the third to lead 3-2, but once again the big inning hurt them as DuBois put up 12 in the fourth on their way to the win. George went 1-2 with an RBI and Samantha Snashell (Buffalo, NY./Charter School for Applied Technology) added a 1-1 day with one RBI.

PSUGA continues to get better with every game and continues to fight to get back in the win column. They will have anothet opportunity this weekend against a PSU-Mont Alto team that has seen there own share of struggles recently having dropped their last six games including a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Christendom College on Tuesday by scores of  13-5 and 9-8. Meagan Smith led the way going 3-7 with three RBI in the series.

Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. followed by game two at 4 p.m.
