Softball Gets Swept in Weekend Finale vs. DuBois

The Penn State Greater Allegheny Softball team (0-8, 0-8) ended their weekend being swept at the hands of PSU-DuBois on Saturday by scores of 10-0 and 17-3. PSUGA found some offensive success on Friday when they put up four runs in the team's opening game, but they were unable to channel that energy for the remainder of the week.

Game one saw Tara Love (Chandler, AZ./Camp Verde HS) take the circle for her third start of the season. She held Dubois at bay over the first two innings of the game only allowing one run in that span. However, Dubois would break through in the top of the third scoring five runs and getting out to a 6-1 lead after three innings.

They would put the game away in the top of the fifth when they put a four spot up against PSUGA pushing the score to 10-1 and enacted the mercy rule ending the game in five innings. Love lasted five innings giving up 10 runs, nine earned, on 10 hits picking up her third loss of the 2019 season.

Alyssa Guzzie (Pittsburgh, PA./Fox Chapel HS) collected the lone hit on the day for PSUGA picking up a single and going 1-2 at the plate. Game two saw PSUGA get a little more offense but once again Dubois proved to much for PSUGA to handle.

Dubois got on the board first in game two in the top of the second with two runs brining PSUGA to the plate in the bottom of the second. They would respond with a run of their own and trailed 2-1 after two. They would take their second lead of the year the next inning putting up two runs and taking a 3-2 lead.

However, Dubois scored 12 runs in the top of the fourth and out the game out of reach before enacting the mercy rule picking up a 17-3 win. PSUGA picked up four hits in the game with four different players coming through on the offensive side.

Samantha Sanshell (Buffalo, NY./Charter School for Applied Technology) and Holly George (Homer City, PA./Homer-Center HS) led the way each going 1-2 with an RBI in the game. Guzzie and Haley Snyder (Connelsville, PA./Connelsville HS) each added 1-3 days rounding out the offense.

PSUGA now falls to 0-8 through their first eight conference games, but the offense has showed signs of improvement in every game. They scored three runs or more for the second time in four games and continue to get better at the plate and in the field.

Their PSUAC schedule continues on Friday, April 5th, when they go on the road to take on PSU-Mont Alto at 2 p.m.
