Rain Lightning Postpone PSUGA Season Finale

Rain Lightning Postpone PSUGA Season Finale

Tarentum, PA. - Rain and lightning rolled through the area on Tuesday afternoon forcing the season finale between Penn State Greater Allegheny (0-18, 0-18) and Penn State New Kensington to be postponed. The teams sat through four different lightning delays and hail started falling on the field forcing the postponement.

The initial start time of 1 p.m. was pushed back due to back to back lightning delays right off the get-go. The girls would take the field at 1:33, however, five pitches later the teams were called back in due to another lightning strike. They would once again sit for back to back lightning delays and a rain shower before retaking the field.

The teams would get through the top of the first as PSUGA's Holly George (Homer City, PA./Homer-Center HS) allowed one base runner before retiring the side. As PSUGA was coming to bat in the bottom of the frst, another lightning strike sent the teams into a delay and acdownpour would lead to the postponement.

While the game was unable to be played, PSUGA  still honored their lone senior has Savanna Simm (West Mifflin, PA./West Mifflin HS) got recognized on field during one of the lightning delays. Simm is in her second stint with the PSUGA softball team and has really come alive over the last few weeks.

A makeup date has not yet been set for the series finale, however, there's a possibility the teams will make up the game on either Wednesday or Thursday. Stay tuned to www.athleticsga.com and we will update you as we know more information.
