Hazleton, Pa- Of all the facets of the game, free throw shooting would seem the least likely area to serve as the key catalyst in a Greater Allegheny win- they shot just above 61% from the line on the year- but powered by a 25-31 (80.6%) shooting night from the charity stripe, GA grinded out a 57-54 victory over Penn State Hazleton in the first round of the PSUAC Playoffs.

Sophomore guard Taylor Fulton (West Mifflin, PA/West Mifflin) stood as the court general yet again, leading Greater Allegheny with 28 points, six assists, and five rebounds.  She also shot an astounding 15-16 from the foul line.  Fellow sophomore, forward Christina Floyd (Philadelphia, PA/Sts. Neumann-Gorett), picked up her 11th double-double of the season, with 10 points and 12 rebounds. 

Two more sophomores, guards Nakayla Layne (Pittsburgh, PA/Allderdice) and Ciera Hussey (Philadelphia, PA/Overbrook), were key cogs as well, each scoring eight points and grabbing six rebounds.  Layne also accumulated four steals.  As had been important to their success all season, GA won the rebounding battle, 49-37.

The win improves their record to 14-12 overall and advances them into the second round of the PSUAC Playoffs.  They will travel to Penn State Brandywine this Saturday, February 16 for a 2 PM start.  Brandywine defeated Greater Allegheny 70-51, earlier this season.
