Magical Playoff Run Ends with 67-52 Championship Loss to Beaver
Media, Pa- After knocking off two teams that had previously bested them earlier in the season, the Greater Allegheny women's basketball team could not complete the trifecta, as they fell 67-52 to Penn State Beaver, in their first-ever PSUAC Championship game.
Beaver led from wire-to-wire, while GA could not fight closer than nine points in the second half. Both teams made just 20 shots from the field- including two threes each- but Beaver benefited from a major discrepancy in foul shots, knocking down 25, as opposed to Greater Allegheny's lowly 10. Beaver also earned a decisive advantage on the glass, outrebounding GA, 56-27.
Sophomore guards Ciera Hussey (Philadelphia, PA/Overbrook) and Nakayla Layne (Pittsburgh, PA/Allderdice) led Greater Allegheny with 13 points, while sophomore guard Taylor Fulton (West Mifflin, PA/West Mifflin) netted 12 and had 10 assists.
The difficult loss ends Greater Allegheny's season with an overall record of 15-13. Despite the final chapter, reaching the PSUAC Championship for the first time in program history is an achievement that should not be overlooked.
