Greater Allegheny Women's Basketball Sweeps Lehigh Valley, 90-67

McKeesport, Pa. - As big-timers senior point guard Taylor Fulton (Duquesne, Pa./West Mifflin) and junior power forward Christina Floyd (Philadelphia, Pa./Saints Goretti-Neumann) both deposit 24 points apiece, the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's basketball team flex over Penn State Lehigh Valley, Friday night, 90-67.

Floyd was the first to contribute for GA, followed by a solid three-pointer added from Fulton. Freshman forward Aaquila Youngblood (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) dumped three consecutive lay-ups to swell the home team to 11-4. Floyd and Youngblood completed both free-throws attempted to continue the lead. Floyd, Fulton and Youngblood boosted the score 12 more points through the next five minutes. Junior guard Nakayla Layne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) added four of the next six points, GA finding themselves ahead 33-16. Freshman guard Tra-Esha Carswell (Homestead, Pa./Steel Valley) made a lay-up before freshman forward Tenisha Gibson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) managed five points. Fulton rode out the last minute of action before halftime with four points, GA leading 50-28.

Four Greater Allegheny student-athletes answered for the blue and white tally within the first four minutes. Fulton hammered down a trey before Floyd made both of her free-throws, 64-38. Junior guard Shelby Bendick (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport Area) put up a jumper as Greater Allegheny and Lehigh Valley answered one anothers marks. Floyd completed a lay-up as Youngblood put-up five points, GA 77-49. Floyd then added four points before Carswell managed a lay-up. A quiet final seven minutes only heard from Youngblood and Fulton as Layne hit a jumper to close regulation. The Penn State Greater Allegheny women's basketball team found themselves on the victorious side of a Penn State University Athletic Conference match-up, boosting their overall record to 12-8, 9-3.

Fulton finished the game shooting 58.8% (10-of-17) from the floor while completing 66.6% (2-of-3) from both the free-throw line and the charity stripe. Fulton unloaded 24 points with her 12 assists. Floyd also shot 58.8% (10-of-17) from the floor as she completed 100% (4-for-4) of her free-throws taken. The power forward contributed 24 points as she pulled down 15 boards. Youngblood added 18 points and boarded eight rebounds through 29 minutes played. Layne helped out her team as she netted 13 points alongside pulling down three rebounds, grabbing five steals and dishing out five assists.

As a team, Greater Allegheny achieved 56.1% (37-of-66) of their shots attempted from the floor alongside out-rebounding Lehigh Valley 45-32. GA dropped 44 points in the paint to surge GA to their 9th PSUAC victory of the season. 

The women's basketball team travels with the men for a double-header with Penn State DuBois, Saturday afternoon. The women are set for tip-off at 1 p.m.
