Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny women's basketball team opened up their second semester of action at Carlow University, Thursday night, where GA found the short-end, 64-43.

Carlow put up a quick four points to open up the contest. Freshman guard Tori Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) was the first GA Lion to get on the board, as she dropped a three outside the arc to bring the game 4-3 just over a minute into the game. 

Greater Allegheny welcomed freshman newcomer Teona Cash (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) second semester, as she got on the board with a jumper. The game went scoreless for over four minutes before senior power forward Christina Floyd (Philadelphia, Pa./Sts. Neumann-Goretti) completed a lay-up for Greater Allegheny to take the lead, 7-6. T. Johnston dropped back-to-back three-pointers, elevating the visiting team to a 13-7 lead with ten minutes to go until the half.

Freshman guard Mandi Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) downed a jumper in-between Carlow tallies. Carlow then tied the game up at 15 before returning veteran junior Nakayla Layne (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) added five points to advance Greater Allegheny. M. Johnston made a lay-up and a free-throw before Carlow drained a three to send the two teams into break, 23-20 GA.

Carlow came out hot as Layne and T. Johnston dropped jump shots to keep the Lions going. M. Johnston made a lay-up and three foul shots to take the blue and white to a 32-29 lead. Cash put down a free-throw as Layne dropped a jumper before a GA timeout with 13 minutes in regulation. 

Carlow held Greater Allegheny to 35 as they went on a nine-point scoring drive. T. Johnston managed a three-pointer but Carlow continued to mark points. The home team swelled to a 54-40 lead over a seven minute period before Layne finished a lay-up. M. Johnston recorded a lay-up for finish the scoring drive for Greater Allegheny, as the game wrapped up for a Carlow victory, 64-43.

T. Johnston achieved 14 points as she went 4-for-8 from the three-point line while pulling down five rebounds with three assists. M. Johnston added 13 points as she went 4-for-8 from the foul line, while she interfered for four steals. Layne put up 11 points with seven rebounds, four steals and two blocks.

As a team, Greater Allegheny shot 50% (5-of-10) from the three-point line while cashing in 14 points in the paint and 12 points off turnovers. Turnovers would ultimately be Greater Allegheny's demise, as 31 of them turned into 40 Carlow points.

Greater Allegheny (3-11, 1-4 PSUAC) looks to go on the road this weekend to continue Penn State University Athletic Conference play. On Saturday, the women are set to tip-off with Penn State Mont Alto at 3 p.m. On Sunday, both the men and women travel to Penn State York for a double-header. The women are scheduled to go at 1 p.m.
