Greater Allegheny Women's Basketball Drops to York, 71-51

York, Pa. - Despite leading at the half, the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's basketball team dropped a Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) contest, Saturday afternoon, to Penn State York, 71-51.

Greater Allegheny jumped to a 8-2 lead as freshman guard Ronnie Upsher (Pittsburgh, Pa./McKeesport), sophomore forward Andrea Burroughs (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) and freshman guard Jayla Ellis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) answered. Burroughs and Ellis continued as freshman forward Justice Mitchell (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) made a jumper, 14-11. Mitchell and Upsher both made jumpers to end the first quarter, 18-15 GA.

York worked to take the lead from GA as Ellis and Upsher both made jumpers to bring the game to a 22 all tie. Upsher added a jumper as Ellis and junior guard Mandi Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) put down free-throws. Johnston surged with a jumper as Upsher added a free-throw, 30-29 GA at halftime.

Johnston started the second-half with a good three-pointer. Mitchell put up two while Johnston added a jumper and one, 38-38 with four minutes in the third quarter. Upsher lifted with three as freshman guard Jordan Kosienski slashed a free-throw, 47-42 York.

York continued to score before Burroughs put up three-points. York hit a groove before Johnston and Burroughs broke the Lion silence, York leading 61-49 with just two minutes of action remaining. Burroughs would bucket the final points of the game by a jumper as York overcame GA, 71-51.

Upsher put up 12 points with nine rebounds, an assist and a steal as Johnston put up 14 points, eight boards, three assists and a steal. Burroughs noted a double-double in the loss, with 17 rebounds and eleven points alongside an assist, a steal and a block. Mitchell posted nine boards with six points, two blocks, an assist and a steal.

As a team, Greater Allegheny out-rebounded York 52-43 as the ladies managed 52.6% (10-of-19) of their shots from the free-throw line and just 20 buckets from the floor. The Lions put up 13 points off second-chance and was outscored 21-3 in points off turnovers.

Greater Allegheny (5-12, 3-8 PSUAC) look onward to traveling to Penn State Fayette, Tuesday evening, for another Penn State University Athletic Conference match-up. Game time is set for 6 p.m.

In the last meeting of the two teams, GA took the win by a 64-57 margin.
