McKeesport, Pa. – After a week off, the Penn State Greater Allegheny Women’s Basketball team (0-3, 0-0) is back in action on Friday for their first road game of the 2017/18 season when they take on Cincinnati-Clermont. PSUGA comes into the contest looking for their first win of the season after dropping each of their first three games.
Despite the record, PSUGA has been playing hard in all three of their games this season and have been showing the passion they have on the court. That passion was on full display their last time out when they faced Point Park on November 8th in the Wunderly Gymnasium. The ladies lost the game 94-44 but there were still some great efforts on the court.
One of the leaders on the day was freshman Alex Hall (Washington, D.C./Bell HS) who put up a season high 15 points on the day. Hall played a big role in the rebounding game through the first two contests, but against Point Park she was able to get the ball inside and make the most of her opportunities. Andrea Burroughs (New Rochelle, Ny./New Rochelle) and Brandy Taylor (Pittsburgh, Pa./Imani Christian Academy) Also finished in double digits on the day with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Burroughs continued her success in the rebounding game leading the team with nine rebounds, just one short of her second double-double of the season. Tina Clybourn (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brashear HS) and Jayla Ellis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) tied for the team lead with four assists a piece.
After playing their first three games of the season at home, PSUGA now has a long stretch on the road as they will play their next eight games away from Wunderly Gymnasium. Last season on the road, PSUGA finished 3-9 and are looking to find some success on the road to help kick start their season.
Cincinnati-Clermont is off to a slow start to the season themselves as they have dropped three of their first four games to start the year They took on Anderson College last time out falling in a close one 47-42 to fall to 1-3 on the season.
These two teams have met twice in the past with Cincinnati-Clermont winning both of those games. Last season, Cincinnati-Clermont won the contest pretty handedly beating PSUGA 85-49. The only current PSUGA player from that game is Andrea Burroughs who scored seven points.
The game against Cincinnatti-Clermont is one of two contests for PSUGA this weekend. They battle UCC at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and follow that up with a 1 p.m. matchup on Saturday with Southern State CC.
