McKeesport, Pa. – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Women’s Basketball Team (0-2, 0-0) fell for the second straight game losing to SUNY Delhi (2-0, 0-0) 74-45. PSUGA was not efficient shooting from the floor and that would be their ultimate demise. SUNY Delhi took advantage of these miscues and used them to help pull them ahead in this game.
SUNY Delhi came out firing in the first half and really put PSUGA in a hole early on as they jumped out to a 17-6 lead after one quarter of play. The scoring would not stop there as they scored another 21 points in the second quarter and went into halftime leading PSUGA 38-17. The second half didn’t provide much more relief as SUNY Delhi continued their offensive attack with 20 points in the third quarter and 16 in the fourth. PSUGA tried to make a late push scoring 14 points in each of the last two quarters, but it was not enough as they fell 74-45.
Despite the score, there were some great individual efforts in this contest. Junior Andrea Burroughs (New Rochelle, Ny./New Rochelle) had a great day leading the team with 15 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Burroughs collected six defensive rebounds and five offensive in the game, turning all five of those rebounds into points.
Alex Hall (Washington, D.C./Bell HS) was second for PSUGA on the day in rebounds collecting ten in the contest while putting up four points and Brandy Taylor (Pittsburgh, Pa./Imani Christian Academy) scored nine points on the day, good for a tie for second on the team with Tina Clybourn (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brashear HS) who also had nine points.
However, the big story of the day was many missed shots from the floor. PSUGA shot just 25% from the floor (19-76) and just 8.3% (1-12) from beyond the arc compared to SUNY Delhi who shot 43.7% (31-71) and went 0-7 from beyond the arc. PSUGA had its offensive opportunities on the day but failed to capitalize in the loss.
It will be a quick turn-around for the PSUGA Women’s Basketball team as they are back in action Wednesday night when they face off against Point Park as part of a Men’s and Women’s Doubleheader at 6 p.m. inside the Wunderly Gymnasium.
