Women Start Long Stretch vs. Beaver

McKeesport, Pa. – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Women’s Basketball Team (1-16, 1-8) start a stretch where they will play four games in six days. It all starts Monday night when they battle Penn State Beaver (9-12, 8-3) at 6 p.m. The women are looking to get back on track after having lost their last three games, all of those games coming at home.

PSUGA competed early on their last time out against Carlow trailing by just six after one quarter of play. However, PSUGA only scored 12 points the rest of the game and fell 68-20. Carlow brought a tough defense in that game and didn’t allow PSUGA any openings to the basket as they tried to make their comeback.

Jayla Ellis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) would score half of her team’s points on the day with 10 of the total 20. Alex Hall (Washington, D.C./Bell HS), who has been playing very well as of late, scored eight on the day and tied with Ellis for the team lead with five rebounds. The only other points came from Andrea Burroughs (New Rochelle, Ny./New Rochelle) and Brandy Taylor (Pittsburgh, Pa./Imani Christian Academy) who each had one point.

PSUGA shot just 19.6% (9-46) from the floor breaking a string of five straight games in which they shot better then 30%. As the season comes to a close, head coach Chrissy French and her team continue to set goals and work to be the best they can be through the last five games of the year.

Penn State Beaver enters this game on the upswing having won their last four contests including a convincing 96-58 win over PSU-Fayette, the only team PSUGA has beaten this year. Beaver got contributions from everyone with 10 players contributing including a team best 16 points from Cheyenne Lopez. Their leader Brittany Jackson was held to just 10 points on the day.

Beaver has dominated this matchup since the 2011/2012 season with a record of 13-2 against PSUGA over that time span. Beaver has won each of the last seven contests dating all the way back to the 2013/2014 season. None of the current roster was part of that game as they will look to reverse the streak.

Tip-off for Monday night’s game is scheduled for 6 p.m. as the first half of a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader. PSUGA closes out the season with their last five games all coming inside the Wunderly Gymnasium.
