3-0 Week Helps Women Climb Four Spots in Weekly Poll

McKeesport, PA. – After a week where they went 3-0 and pushed their winning streak to four straight games, the Penn State Greater Allegheny Women’s Basketball Team (10-7, 7-1) jumped four places in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association weekly coach’s poll to #12 in the country. PSUGA’s offense has fueled their success as of late and it has been their top two scorers that have put the team on their backs.

Tina Clybourn (Pittsburgh, PA./Brashear HS) was the catalyst for the offense combining to score 80 points over the three games including a 34 point effort on a record breaking night against PSU-Scranton. For her efforts, she was named both the USCAA and the Penn State University Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Clybourn’s success has helped PSUGA score 81 or more points In each of their last two games and 72 or more points over the course of their current four game winning streak. Since the calendar turned to 2019, PSUGA has averaged 73.2 points per game and have a record of 4-1 over that span. After starting the season with just 2-6, PSUGA came back and has dominated conference play more then doubling their win total from a year ago.

However, their scheduled doesn’t get any easier over the final three weeks as they have to face three of the top 10 USCAA teams including #9 PSU-Brandywine, #4 PSU-Beaver, and #3 PSU-Lehigh Valley. While their schedule proves challenging, PSUGA continues to focus on just playing one game at a time.

With a playoff berth on the line Friday night against PSU-York, PSUGA is looking to continue their strong offensive performance as of late and punch their ticket to the PSUAC playoffs for the first time since the 2013-2014 season.

PSUGA is back in action tonight when they battle PSU-York at 5 p.m. in the first half of a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader.
