Clybourn’s Record Day Leads PSUGA to Victory

McKeesport, PA. – It was a big day for the Penn State Greater Allegheny Women’s basketball team’s (9-7, 7-1) offense on Friday night when they picked up an 81-44 win over Penn State Scranton (5-10, 4-6). The offense was led by a record setting effort from Tina Clybourn (Pittsburgh, PA./Brashear HS) who broke the single game record for three-pointers made in a game hitting nine on the night.

After Scranton pulled out to an early 8-7 lead, PSUGA’s offense went off going on a 10-0 run to push the score to 17-10 PSUGA with 2:36 to go in the first. The offense would continue to roll outscoring Scranton 6-3 over the final two and a half minutes and PSUGA led 22-13 after one quarter of play.

Clybourn’s big offensive day started in the second quarter where she hit four of her record nine three-pointers and put up 14 points as part of a game high 24-point team attack. The defense did it’s part as well holding Scranton to just nine points in the quarter and the teams broke for the locker room with PSUGA in full control up 41-21.

Clybourn would break the single game three-point record in the opening minutes of the third quarter taking a pass from teammate Tearia Hartley (East Stroudsburg, PA./East Stroudsburg North HS) and draining it from 25 feet out putting her team up 55-27. The attention would then turn to Hartley, who was quietly having a great game of her own. She had 15 assists at the end of the third quarter and was moving towards a triple-double.

She would accomplish that feat with just over three minutes left in the game picking up her 10th rebound giving her 10 points, 18 assists, and 10 rebounds. She finished just one assist shy of tying the single game record and picked up the first triple-double of her college career. PSUGA would cruise through the second half putting up 23 points and picking up the 81-44 victory.

Clybourn had a career day leading the way with 34 poits and finishing shooting 9-21 from three-point range. Hartley finished with the triple double and was one of the three PSUGA players to finish in double digits. Lexus Santiago (Pittsburgh, PA./Imani Christian Academy) continued her rebounding tear leading the way with 16 in the game.

With the win, PSUGA cut it’s magic number to two as they fight for a spot in the PSUAC playoffs. Any combination of three PSUGA wins or PSU-Mont Alto losses would guarantee PSUGA their first trip to the PSUAC playoffs since the 2013-2014 season.

PSUGA returns to action on Monday when they go on the road to take on PSU-New Kensington at 6 p.m.
