Second Half Offensive Eruption leads Women to Fourth Straight Win

DuBois, PA. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny Women's Basketball team (5-7, 4-0) erupted for 50 second half points to down PSU-DuBois on Saturday 74-69. It was the ladies fourth straight Penn State University Athletic Conference win and has them sitting in good position as the team heads into the winter break.

Dubois came into the game hot having won three of their first four conference games and took control early jumping out to a 7-3 lead with 4:53 left in the first quarter. PSUGA would fight back to bring the score to 10-8 with just under four to play in the first quarter but a Dubois 6-2 run would fine GA down 16-10 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw the teams go blow for blow with each other throughout, but Dubois would once again out score PSUGA 15-14 and went into the locker room leading 31-24. Head coach Chrissy French and her team were down and would have to make a second half comeback if they wanted to keep their conference winning streak alive.

After trading the first 12 points of the second half, PSUGA took their first lead of the game going on a 10-0 run that spanned just over three minutes and had PSUGA in the lead 40-38. They were able to hold that lead for the rest of the quarter and held a 49-46 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

The final 10 minutes would be a rollee coaster with the game going through three lead changes leaving PSUGA down 69-67 with 2:08 to go. Then, junior Jayla Ellis (Pittsburgh, PA./Woodland Hills HS) would put the team on her back scoring five straight points to give PSUGA tje lead and the victory. Tina Clybourn (Pittsburgh, PA./Brashear HS) scored the final two points and PSUGA moved to 4-0 in conference play with a 74-69 victory.

Clybourn had a big day scoring 21 points in the victory putting her above the 20 point mark for the second time this season. Four other PSUGA players joined her in double digits with Ellis finishing with 14 points and Brandy Taylor (Pittsburgh, PA./Imani Christian Academy) finished with 13 points.

PSUGA now sits at 4-0 in PSUAC play and has positioned themselves right at the top of the PSUAC East Division as the team heads into the break. As they continue to keep their eyes on the playoffs, they have set themselves in great position to do just that.

The women now look ahead to the holiday break and will return to action on January 7th 2019 when they go on the road to take on Penn State Beaver at 6 p.m.
