Blair’s Career Day Gives PSUGA Win on Senior Day

McKeesport, PA. – On a day where Penn State Greater Allegheny honored seven men’s and women’s basketball seniors, the PSUGA Women’s Basketball team (15-9, 11-3) picked up their third straight win taking down Penn State New Kensington (0-5, 0-0) 87-32. The win tied the PSUGA women’s basketball single-season win record with the ladies now sitting at 15-9 overall with one more game left in the season.

It was a big day for sophomore Kiya Blair (Pittsburgh, PA./Carrick HS) who put up a career high 17 points to lead PSUGA and was one of five PSUGA players to finish in double digits. PSUGA took control of this one right from the get go scoring the first 15 points of the game before allowing New Kensington to get on the board with 4:24 left in the first. The offensive onslaught continued throughout the quarter and PSUGA was ahead 27-5 after one quarter.

PSUGA was once again on the attack scoring the first seven points of the second quarter to extend their lead to 34-5 with 7:26 remaining before halftime. PSUGA ended up scoring 22 in the quarter, but the defense allowed 13 from New Kensington and went into halftime up 49-18. PSUGA had all the momentum and rolled with it for the rest of the game leading for all but the first 15 seconds of the game.

They closed out the win 38 second-half points and the defense played well allowing New Kensington just nine more before the game came to an end. The 87-32 victory is the largest margin of victory for PSUGA and every single girl that was dressed found their way on the scoreboard.

Blair’s 17-point day led the way with teammates Tina Clybourn (Pittsburgh, PA./Brashear HS), Brandy taylor (Pittsburgh, PA./Imani Christian academy), Lexus Santiago (Pittsburgh, PA./Imani Christian Academy), and Andrea Burroughs (New Rochelle, NY./New Rochelle HS) finishing in double digits.

Burroughs was the lone honoree for PSUGA and has been a rock for the program. She has helped lead them on this complete turn around and has them primed for a long Penn State University Athletic Conference playoff run. Her unselfishness is one thing noted by head coach Chrissy French as she literally gave the jersey off her back to an incoming freshman who wanted her number for her final two seasons.

PSUGA has one more regular season contest against PSU-Fayette on the road on Friday February 15th with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.
