Manfredi Named Interim Head Women’s Basketball Coach

McKeesport, PA. – With the Penn State Greater Allegheny Women’s Basketball season opening on Monday, the PSUGA Athletic Department has announced that Jess Manfredi will serve as the team’s interim head coach to begin the 2019-2020 season. Manfredi is no stranger to the PSUGA Women’s Basketball program having served as an assistant for two seasons.

Before joining the PSUGA Athletics Department for the 2019-2020 season, Manfredi served as an assistant coach for the West Mifflin Area High School Girls Basketball team during the 2018-2019 season. Manfredi helped lead the Titans to a 9-11 overall record and a 7-7 record in Class 4A section three play, finishing fifth in the standings and just missing the WPIAL playoffs.

Before that, Manfredi spent two seasons as an assistant for the PSUGA Women’s Basketball team under former head coach Chrissy French. Manfredi helped run the day-to-day aspects of the team and worked as a tutor for athletes across all 14 varsity sports at PSUGA.

Manfredi is an alumn of Penn State Greater Allegheny graduating in 2017 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications as well as a certificate in Sports Administration. While at PSUGA, she was a two-sport athlete playing on both the Women’s Soccer Team and the Women’s Basketball team from 2015 – 2017.

She served as a captain for the Women’s Basketball team during her junior and senior season leading the team to a record of 15-31 and 8-20 in conference play. One of the biggest honors in her playing career was being named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Year in 2015 for her efforts both on the court and in the classroom.

Manfredi takes over a women’s basketball program that is coming off its first playoff appearance since the 2013-2014 season. Manfredi is familiar with many of the returners to this year’s team and is excited to lead this year’s team through the start of their season.

“I am extremely excited to take over as the women’s coach,” said Manfredi. “We had a lot of success last season and I believe our team can go even further this year.”

Manfredi and her team kick-off their season on Monday when they take on Butler County Community College with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
