GA Women's Soccer's Melissa Loftus Nets First Career Goal

Monaca, Pa. -  The Penn State Greater Allegheny women's soccer team traveled to Penn State Beaver Wednesday afternoon, as they competed in their first PSUAC conference match-up. 

Greater Allegheny was the first to answer in the game. FreshmanMelissa Loftus (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) took a ball unassisted down into the 18 and slammed it into the mesh in the 15th minute. GA was riding high until Beaver tied it up at one to head into half-time.

GA and Beaver played with the score at one for 31 minutes into the second half. Beaver's Jessica Spina got low on freshman goaltender Nana Kennedy-Kwofie (Kenya) to take the score to 2-1. Beaver achieved another to close the game in the 87th minute, 3-1.

Kennedy faced seven shots on goal, saving four. Loftus ripped five shots on goal, a team-high for this season. Taylor Bayes (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City), Nicole Bacvinskas (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brashear) and Betel Gebre all contributed a shot to the GA offense.

Greater Allegheny takes the loss rough and tries to keep their head up in preparation for their next match-up. GA will travel to Highmark Stadium to play Point Park's JV team on October 7th. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m.
