Lions Rally to Win After Halftime Deficit, 2-1

White Oak, Pa. - Despite being down 1-0 at halftime, the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's soccer team rallied from behind and overcame Penn State Mont Alto, 2-1, for their first conference win of the season.

Through the first 35 minutes of the game, Greater Allegheny outshot Mont Alto 15-2. In the 37th minute, Mont Alto excelled on a break away and came down to a 1v1 situation to put the first goal of the game on the board, Mont Alto 1-0.

Both teams battled through the start of the second half before GA got on the board. Junior midfielder Melissa Loftus (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) sailed the ball to sophomore midfielder Danielle Hozinec (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson), who took it from the left side of the net and into the back of the mesh, 1-1.

Just six minutes later, freshman defender Emily Rojas (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) placed the ball at the feet of Loftus, as she netter the game-winner, 2-1 Greater Allegheny. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Rachael Maiden (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) faced seven shots on goal, stopping six. With the win, Maiden has improved her overall win to 3-2, 1-0 PSUAC.

Sophomore midfielder Kaylin Bob (Riverdale, Pa./Forest Park) posted seven shots through the contest while Hozinec ripped six. Junior midfielder Lauren Antosik (McKeesport, Pa./Oakland Catholic) contributed four shots toward the GA offense, placing all four on target.

As a whole, the Greater Allegheny offense outshot Penn State Mont Alto, 30-12, through the conference showdown.

The Lions will now focus on Thursday, as Penn State Beaver comes to Francis McClure for another Penn State University Athletic Conference match-up. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m.
