GA Women's Soccer Succumbs to Penn State Beaver, 4-2

White Oak, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny women's soccer team dropped a hearbreaker, Thursday afternoon, against Penn State University Athletic Conference foe, Penn State Beaver, 4-2.

Greater Allegheny came out hard from the gate, eager to make up for the last 9-1 Beaver bout. Less than six minutes into the game, freshman defender Emily Rojas (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) moved the ball up the field to sophomore forward Melissa Loftus (Oxford, Pa./Oxford), who found the feet of sophomore midfielder Danielle Hozinec (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson), who bodied the ball into the net, 1-0 GA.

Greater Allegheny held strong for 25 minutes before Beaver's Morgan Stillwagon evened the tally at one after a 1v1 with the goalie. The ladies took a break at half with Greater Allegheny outshooting Beaver, 10-7.

Nine minutes into the second half, Morgan Stillwagon notched a header off of a cornerkick, Beaver taking the 2-1 advantage. In the 69th minute, sophomore midfielder Albree Weisen (Pittsburgh, Pa./Carrick) took a pass from junior defender Jess Manfredi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson), and put the ball up and over the goalies hands, evening the tally at two.

Three minutes later, Beaver notched the game-winner off of the foot of Sadie Stillwagon, 3-2 Beaver. Gas ran out as Beaver's Jessica Spina ripped one into the back of the mesh, 4-2 Penn State Beaver.

The Greater Allegheny offense outshot Beaver through the contest, 20-19.

Sophomore goalkeeper Rachael Maiden (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) faced 12 shots on goal, stopping eight. Rojas, Weisen and Hozinec all posted four shots through the game while Loftus and sophomore midfielder Kaylin Bob (Riverdale, Ga./Forest Park) ripped three.

Greater Allegheny looks forward to the Penn State University Athletic Conference match-up, Sunday, as Penn State Schuylkill comes to Francis McClure in White Oak. Kick-off is set for 12 p.m.
