Women's Volleyball Ends Trip With Two Losses

Scranton, Pa- The Penn State Greater Allegheny Women's Volleyball team finished up its eastern PA tour, dropping two PSUAC contests.   The GA women were beaten 3-1 (21-25, 26-24, 16-25, 19-25) by Penn State Scranton, and then fell 3-0 (15-25, 18-25, 16-25) at the hands of Penn State Wilkesbarre.

The first match against Penn State Scranton was heavily contested.  Scranton would hold on in the first set, after GA made a late run to get to within 2, at 20-18.  The second set saw nine ties, and was eventually pushed to extra points. A timely Kill by Freshman Corinne Wilson (Bethel Park) would put Greater Allegheny up for good.  Sets 3 and 4 would go much more smoothly for Penn State Scranton, as they went on to win the match 3-1.

Against Penn State Wilkesbarre, the Greater Allegheny women failed to match up to the strong attack of their opponent.  GA would only lead three times over the duration of the match, without leading at any point in the third set.  Penn State Wilkesbarre would cruise to a 3-0 win.

Despite the losses, Penn State Greater Allegheny had multiple performances shine through. On the day,  Freshman Alyssa Finocchi (Baldwin) notched 17 Kills, 6 Service Aces, 34 Digs, to go along with 7 total Blocks.  Fellow Freshmen Megan Carroll (Ramona Convent) and Samantha Clark (Steel Valley) both provided GA with strong efforts.  Carroll had 4 Kills and 5 Service Aces, with Clark adding 17 Assists and 7 Service Aces.

With the two losses, Greater Allegheny's record falls to 4-18 overall, and 3-11 in PSUAC matches. After a long weekend, the GA women will be back in action this Saturday October 15, as they host Penn State New Kensington for a 12:00 PM match.
