Women's Volleyball Struggles in 3-0 Loss to LaRoche

Pittsburgh, Pa- In their first match in 10 days, the Greater Allegheny women's volleyball team suffered through a 3-0 match defeat at the hands of LaRoche College.  GA dropped set one 25-16, set two 25-4, and then 25-10 in the third set.

  Greater Allegheny got off to a good start early in set one, when a kill from sophomore Christina Floyd (St. John Neumann, PA) capped a 7-3 scoring run, giving GA a 12-8 lead.  Five quick points from LaRoche gave pushed them ahead 13-12, forcing a GA timeout.  Over the remaining half of the set, LaRoche would outscore the Greater Allegheny women 12-4, winning 25-16.

  Christina Floyd led GA in kills with three, while sophomore Audra Besnak (Steel Valley, PA) turned in a strong defensive effort with 11 service receptions and four digs. 

  Despite a very good start and competitive first set, the Greater Allegheny women struggled mightily over the final two frames- they were outscored 50-14 by LaRoche, and only led once between both sets.  

  Sophomore Alyssa Finocchi (Baldwin, PA) had two kills, while fellow sophomore Corinne Wilson (Bethel Park, PA) and freshman Haley Worden (Madonna, PA), each drilled one kill.  Finocchi would also add 10 service receptions and four digs over the last two sets.  Junior Helena Vasser (Schenley, PA) turned in a strong defensive effort as well, collecting six service receptions and two digs.

  Following their fourth straight set-back, the Greater Allegheny women's volleyball now owns a 2-4 overall record.  They will return to the court this Saturday, September 15 for an 11 AM match at Carlow.
