Women's Volleyball Comes Up Short in Valiant Playoff Battle

Media, Pa- In a thrilling, back-and-forth, first round of PSUAC playoff action, the sixth-seeded Greater Allegheny women's volleyball team fell 3-0 (17-25, 21-25, 23-25) to the third-seeded, Penn State Brandywine.

Just narrowly missing the first round upset, the GA women played their best match of the 2012 season.  Twice they led 21-19 late in sets two and three, but could not hold off a Brandywine rally.  Sophomore Alyssa Finocchi (Baldwin, PA) ended her stellar season with three kills, seven digs, and an impressive seven blocks.  Sophomore Christina Floyd (St. John Neumann, PA) led the Greater Allegheny women with four kills, while also collecting seven digs and two total blocks.  Freshman Haley Worden (Madonna, PA) turned in a strong performance as well,  with seven assists and eight digs.

The loss ends the Greater Allegheny season with an all-time best record of 12-15 overall and 10-7 in the PSUAC.  Head coach Tracy Gibbs will look to continue building on this year's success, as she prepares for next August's season opener.
