GA Volleyball Falls Short to Five-Time Defending PSUAC Champions

Lemont Furnace, Pa. - The Greater Allegheny women's volleyball team opened their 2013 PSUAC schedule against Penn State Fayette, but fell short in a tough competition, 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-9).

The first set was the best competed between the two conference teams. Greater Allegheny kept close with Fayette in the beginning of the match with large contribution from junior Christina Floyd (Philadelphia, Pa./St. John Neumann), who posted five attacks and three kills.  As the set went on, the defensive effort dwindled as Fayette swelled to take a 25-14 bout.

Multiple Greater Allegheny women contributed to the team effort, led by Floyd's 14 attacks, four kills and five blocks.  Junior hard-hitter Alyssa Finocchi tallied nine attacks, seven digs and two kills.  Sophomore Kayla Franklin (Detroit, Mich./Thurston) dispensed six attacks, one kill and three digs.

The Greater Allegheny women's volleyball record falls to 2-5, 0-1 in the PSUAC.  The women will look onward to next Wednesday, as they are set to host La Roche College.  They are scheduled to meet in Wunderley Gymnasium on September 11th for a 6 o'clock tip-off.
