Greater Allegheny Volleyball Falls to La Roche, 3-0

McKeesport, Pa. - A tough fought second set by the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's volleyball just was not enough to overcome La Roche College Wednesday night at Wunderley Gymnasium.

GA was point-for-point with La Roche the first set before their coach, Nicole Bajuszik, took a time-out to slow the pace down. La Roche took a six point scoring streak to stretch the lead by six. Greater Allegheny managed a few more points through the set but fell short, 25-15.

The second set was a slow start for GA. Tied at 15 points a piece, a block from junior Christina Floyd (Philadelphia, Pa./St. John Neumann) posted a huge point for GA, sending La Roche into a time-out. At this point, La Roche and Greater Allegheny were back and forth in scoring. Huge contribution from junior Alyssa Finocchi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) kept the home team close as she set attacks, a block and a service ace. Down to the wire, La Roche came out victorious in the hard fought set as they had to beat GA by two, 26-24.

The momentum from the second set dwindled as Greater Allegheny entered the third set. A low-scoring game for GA, La Roche went on to take the final set, 25-8.

Leading PSUGA was Finocchi, with 19 attacks, nine kills, five digs, four solo blocks, five assisted blocks and one ace,  sophomore Krystal Waller (Munhall, Pa./Steel Valley), with eight attacks, four kills, three digs and three assisted blocks, and freshman Brianna Audette (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville), with four attacks and eleven digs.

Penn State Greater Allegheny hosts Penn State Beaver Thursday night, scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
