Greater Allegheny Volleyball Sweeps for a 3-0 Weekend

Monaca, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny women's volleyball team traveled to Penn State Beaver, Friday and Saturday, as they took three wins over Penn Highlands, Westmoreland County Community College and Community College of Beaver County. 

To open the weekend, Greater Allegheny took on a re-match from the game previous against Penn Highlands. GA took all three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-18, and 25-8.

Senior middle hitter Alyssa Finocchi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) contributed 13 kills on 18 attempts, creating a kill percentage of 66.7%. Finocchi contributed eight digs, five service aces, one block solo and an assisted block.

Freshman middle hitter Cheyenne Boulware (Centreville, Va./Centreville) added eight kills on 14 total attempts, giving herself a kill percentage of 42.9%. Sophomore defensive specialist Brianna Audette (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) dished her teammates 23 assists alongside four service aces and four digs.

In the next contest, Greater Allegheny went up against Westmoreland County Community College. The two teams battled through five sets; WCCC took the first two 25-22 and 25-20. Greater Allegheny went on to take the final three sets by a score of 25-14, 25-10 and 15-11.

Freshman right side Laura Vazquez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Cupey Maria Montessori) completed twelve kills out of 21 total attempts alongside eleven digs and two service aces. Freshman defensive specialist Tori Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) completed eight kills through 18 total attempts along with eleven digs. Audette contributed 31 assists with eight service aces.

On Saturday to close their weekend trip, Greater Allegheny took on Community College of Beaver County and was victorious 3-1. GA took the first set 25-14 before CCBC narrowly took the second set 25-21. Greater Allegheny closed the game winning the final two sets 25-17. 

Finocchi hammered ten kills over 27 total attempts. She achieved eight service aces along with six digs through four sets. Johnston and Vazquez both added five kills apiece, contributing nine total digs. Audette assisted 18 kills alongside six service aces through four sets of action.

Greater Allegheny (5-3) moves on to see Penn State University Athletic Conference foe, Penn State Fayette, Tuesday evening. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
