Greater Allegheny Volleyball Splits with Mont Alto and York

McKeesport, Pa. - The Penn State Greater Allegheny women's volleyball team hosted both Penn State Mont Alto and Penn State York, Sunday afternoon, as GA took York 3-0 and Mont Alto edged out GA 3-2.

Greater Allegheny saw Penn State York first on Sunday. Through the first set, GA earned seven kills through 18 total attempts. Senior middle hitter Alyssa Finocchi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) got down for four digs in the first set and contributed one assist. Senior middle hitter Christina Floyd (Philadelphia, Pa./Sts. Neumann-Goretti) added two service aces and three total blocks to head into the second set. GA came out on top 25-10.

Finocchi completed eight kills as sophomore setter Adrielle Brisbon (Fort Washington, Md./Friendly) dished eleven assists alongside two service aces. Freshman right side Laura Vazquez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Cupey Maria Montessori) got in on the mix as she hit down four kills to push Greater Allegheny to a 25-14 triumph.

Freshman right side Emily Taylor (Aliquippa, Pa./Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter) completed three kills on four total attempts as Vazquez hit down four. Brisbon assisted with six handouts along with one service ace and two digs. Greater Allegheny finished the third and final set by a score of 25-15.

With the win, GA boosted their overall record to 11-5, 4-2 PSUAC.

GA looked onward to another Penn State University Athletic Conference foe, Penn State Mont Alto. 

The first set saw four kills on seven attempts from Floyd, along with one service ace and four total blocks. Brisbon assisted ten kills alongside getting down for eight digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Brianna Audette (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) helped her team through the 25-14 Greater Allegheny victory with six digs. 

Mont Alto took the next two sets 25-15 and 25-17. Finocchi recorded five kills and nine digs, while Vazquez had 13 digs and Brisbon assisted seven hits. 

Greater Allegheny took the fourth set 25-16, as the team completed nine kills on 26 hits for a kill percentage of 30.8%. Vazquez played seven digs as Brisbon lifted the home team's efforts with five assists. Freshman middle hitter Cheyenne Boulware (Centreville, Pa./Centreville) got into the mix as she added two kills and two digs.

Mont Alto got to fifteen first in the fifth set and came out on top by a final score of 3-2.

Brisbon finished the game with 23 assists and 20 digs. Floyd completed nine kills with four block solos and five block assists. Finocchi recorded eight kills through the five sets alongside four service aces and 20 digs. Vazquez boosted her team with seven kills and 23 digs.

Greater Allegheny (11-6, 4-3 PSUAC) travels to Penn State Beaver, Wednesday night, for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
