Greater Allegheny Volleyball Trumps Beaver 3-0 in Elite Eight Playoffs

Monaca, Pa. - Through three sets of action, the Penn State Greater Allegheny women's volleyball team swept Penn State Beaver in the first round of the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoffs, advancing themselves to the Final Four on Friday against Penn State Fayette.

Senior middle hitter Alyssa Finocchi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) completed 13 kills alongside her ten total blocks, four digs and a service ace. Sophomore setter Adrielle Brisbon (Fort Washington, Md./Friendly) assisted 28 kills through the three sets of playoff action. Brisbon also added nine digs, three block assists and two service aces. Senior middle hitter Christina Floyd (Philadelphia, Pa./Sts. Neumann-Goretti) hammered 12 kills, seven block solos and one service ace to contribute to the overtake.

Freshman defensive specialist Tori Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) got down for 17 digs to guide her team to the finish. Freshman right side Emily Taylor (Aliquippa, Pa./Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter) piled on five kills and two assists while freshman middle hitter Cheyenne Boulware (Centreville, Va./Centreville) got up for three total blocks. Sophomore defensive specialist Brianna Audette (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) helped her team with seven digs and two kills alongside freshman right side Laura Vazquez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Cupey Maria Montessori) putting up three service aces and two kills.

This Elite Eight match-up marked the third consecutive playoff appearance for Penn State Greater Allegheny since Coach Gibbs took over the program four years ago.  This is the first Elite Eight playoff win the program has earned in it's Penn State Conference history.  Greater Allegheny moves on to the Penn State University Athletic Conference Final Four Playoff match. GA travels to Penn State Fayette, Friday night, for a 7 p.m. tip-off. The winner of this match will move on to the Championship match at University Park on Sunday.
