Volleyball Falls to New Kensington Three Sets to One

McKeesport, Pa. – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Volleyball team (1-6, 0-3) dropped their third straight contest on Wednesday when they fell to Penn State New Kensington (2-4, 1-3) three sets to one.

It was a back and forth contest early on as in the first two sets, PSUGA and PSU-New Kensington were trading blows throughout the sets. PSU-New Kensington pulled off a win in set one 26-24 while PSUGA picked up a win in the second set 27-25 to tie the match early on. However, PSU-New Kensington pulled away in set three taking a 25-12 win and then sealed the deal in set four winning 25-20.

PSUGA showed some fight early on, but in the end PSU-New Kensington came out firing to win the match Kaylea Flick starred serving setting up a bunch of rallies that helped PSU-New Kensington pull away. It was PSUGA’s first loss to PSU-New Kensington since last season and only their third loss against them since the 2011/12 season.

Kaylee Holtzman (McKeesport, Pa./Mckeesport) and Marina Selmi (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Objetivo) lead the offensive attack for PSUGA picking up five kills each in the contest. Laura Vazquez Diaz (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Cupey Maria Montessori) lead on the defensive side picking up eight digs in the loss.

PSUGA is back in action on Saturday September 30th when they go on the road to face off against Penn State Brandywine and Penn State Schuylkill in a tri-match. Action for those two games starts at 2 p.m.
