Volleyball Falls in Three Sets vs. PSU-Beaver

McKeesport, PA. – The Penn State Greater Allegheny Volleyball Team (8-12, 2-5) dropped a big game to Penn State Beaver (13-8, 4-4) on Tuesday 3-0. The loss makes PSUGA’s road to the playoffs a little bit harder as they fall to 1.5 behind Beaver for the fourth-place spot in the Penn State University Athletic Conference West Division.

Beaver gained the momentum early on in the match jumping out to a big 10-2 lead to start the set. After PSUGA was forced to call a timeout, they brought the score back to 13-5, but Beaver would go on to take 12 of the final 19 points to take a 1-0 lead. Finding themselves down in the match, PSUGA would dig deep as they fought to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The second set featured a back-and-forth battle between the two teams throughout the set. PSUGA found themselves with the advantage late in the set thanks to three straight serves by Daisy Pastories (Port Vue, PA./South Allegheny) that gave them a 19-18 lead. However, it was PSU-Beaver once again finding the advantage scoring the final three points of the set and picking up a 25-21 set win.

PSUGA tried to stay alive in the third set saw PSUGA and Beaver battle to a 10-8 score. Beaver would pull away scoring eight straight points and increasing their lead to 18-8 before PSUGA fought back once again. The score got as close as 22-19 before Beaver shut the door on the win taking the set 25-20 and sweeping the match.

Alix Ellis (Derry, PA./Derry Area) led PSUGA with seven kills on 27 total attacks while Sueriah Timsah (Mesquite, TX./West Mesquite HS) finished with five kills and led the team with 31 total attacks. Juliana Brill (Mount Jackson, VA./Stonewall Jackson HS) led the defense with 15 digs while Seiblesierra Ili (Barstow, CA./Barstow HS) led the team with 10 assists.

The loss moves PSUGA to 2-5 in conference play and makes their road to the PSUAC Playoffs a little more difficult. With just four games remaining on the schedule, three in conference, they would have to win at least two of their conference games and three of four total games while getting some help from other teams in the PSUAC West Division.

PSUGA returns to action this Saturday when they battle PSU-DuBois on the road at 2 p.m. It is a win or go home scenario as PSUGA fights for a playoff spot.
