Volleyball Splits Day, Drops Conference Match, at PSU-Mont Alto Tri Match

Shippensburg, PA. - The Penn State Greater Allegehny Volleyball team (2-5, 1-1) split the day at the PSU-Mont Alto tri-match on Saturday dropping the first game to Mont Alto 3-1 and defeating Christendom College 3-1. After dropping the conference game, PSUGA rebounded and scored a non-conference win to get the momentum back on their side.

The day started with a Penn State University Athletic Conference match-up with PSU-Mont Alto as PSUGA looked to build off of their conference opening win. They had not won the first set in any of their games this season, and had the goal of getting out to a fast start to start the day.

They would be able to do just that grabbing a 25-17 set one win to go ahead 1-0 in the match. It was the first time that PSUGA had won the first set this season giving them the chance to play ahead heading into set two.

However, PSU-Mont Alto came back and took control of things from there winning the next two sets 25-12 and 25-17 to take a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set. PSUGA would have to fight to stay alive as they tried to battle back for their second conference win.

They battled through the early part of the set trailing by just three points late in the set. However, they didn't have enough as PSU-Mont Alto pulled out the 25-21 win and took the match 3-1. With the loss, PSUGA dropped to 1-1 in conference play and moved them into third place in the PSUAC standings.

Alix Ellis (Derry, PA./Derry Area HS) led the offense finishing match one with 14 kills on 29 total attacks. Alexa Martell (Elizabeth, PA./Elizabeth Forward HS) added nine kills on 19 total attacks and Juliana Brill (Mount Jackson, VA./Stonewall Jackson HS) led the defense with 17 digs.

After the loss, PSUGA was looking to get momentum back on their side in the second game of the day against Christendom College. With two non-conference matches on the schedule before they get back to conference play, it was a chance for PSUGA to get back on track.

They would be able to do just that handling their business and defeating the Crusaders 3-1. PSUGA got back on track with good communication and made plays when they had to to improve to 2-5 on the year. The win got the momentum back on their side as they head into a week where they will play four games in seven days.

The PSUGA Volleyball team returns to action on Monday, September 16th, when they take on Point Park at 7 p.m. inside the Wunderley Gym.
