Home Tri-Match Highlights PSUGA Volleyball 2019-2020 Schedule

McKeesport, PA. – With just over a month until the start of the 2019-2020 Penn State Greater Allegheny Athletics Season, things are heating up as we get ready for another exciting year. Kicking things off will be the PSUGA Volleyball team as they released their 2019-2020 Schedule on Friday featuring a home tri-match as well as tough non-conference competition inside the Wunderly Gymnasium.

Last season, was a big one for the PSUGA Volleyball team as they missed the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoffs by two games going (10-14, 3-7). After a slow start, they were able to hit their stride mid-season and, despite missing the playoffs, gained momentum heading into the off-season with a 2-0 win over Penn State New Kensington that they look to bring into the 2019 season.

Returning to this year’s team are many of the key components to last year’s success including offensive powerhouse Alix Ellis (Derry, PA./Derry Area HS). Ellis earned a PSUAC First-Team All-Conference bid as well as a United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-American Honorable Mention award in her freshman season while leading PSUGA with 182 kills a year ago. Joining her on offense will be junior Kaylee Holtzman (McKeesport, PA./McKeesport HS), who will be serving as the veteran for this year’s team.

PSUGA opens up the season on August 30th and 31st when they travel to the USCAA Tip-off Tournament at Penn State Beaver where they will play three games in two days. Then, they return home for back-to-back contests against Carlow and their PSUAC opener against PSU-Shenango on September 9th and 11th. After an away tri-match, they come back for their second tough non-conference game against Point Park on September 16th.

They end the home portion of the schedule on a high note when they host a tri-match on October 19th against PSU-Fayette and Kent State Tuscarawas. That day will also be senior recognition day as PSUGA honors senior Ronni Corbett (McKeesport, PA./McKeesport HS) for all of her hard work over the past four years.

With 41 days to go before the girls tip-off, the 2019 season comes with big expectations. During Finocchi’s first two seasons, PSUGA has slowly gotten better each year. This season, they are looking to make the jump from playoff hopeful to playoff contender as they chase the program’s first PSUAC Championship.
