Women's Volleyball Overcomes Heat and Maine Fort - Kent for Season Opening Victory

(McKeesport, PA)

It's not the heat, it's the humidity, right?

Wunderley gym on the campus of Penn State Greater Allegheny was a hot and steamy venue for Thursday night's season opening match up between Maine Fort - Kent and Penn State Greater Allegheny Women's Volleyball.

The visitors raced out to an early lead winning the first set 26-24. GA rebounded with a strong performance in games 2 and 3 winning both sets 25-16 and 25-17 respectively.

Then, came the all important game 4. Win and GA goes home a winner in 4 sets or drop the set and it's on to set 5 with things tied at 2.

Maine Fort - Kent won the 4th set 25-17 forcing a 5th set.

Behind a strong performance from Alix Ellis (Derry, PA/ Derry HS) who recorded 19 kills, the blue and white pulled out game 5 15-11 to win the match 3-2.

Sueriah Timsah (Mesquite, TX/ West Mesquite HS) added 11 kills and Jenna Gralewski (Pittsburgh, PA / Serra Catholic) added 14 digs in the season opening win.

It's the 1st win of the season for GA as they prepare for what will hopefully be a successful campaign.

Women's Volleyball returns to action on Sept 1 with a road match at Butler County Community College. Tip off is 6pm.
