As January quickly comes to a close, the Penn State Greater Allegheny student-athletes have been hard at work through the winter on the court and the mat. Strong competition has come through the doors of Greater Allegheny, mentally and physically challenging the student-athletes to participate in their respective sports, overcoming their foes and being rewarded not only on the playing field, but also in the classroom.

As we honor our male and female January Student-Athletes of the Month, the Athletic Department admires their hard-work, dedication and commitment to both their respective teams alongside their fields of study. Each student-athlete has excelled both on and off the court, earning recognition in the classroom with at least a 3.0 GPA or higher the previous semester. Those selected have exemplified the values and expectations of a Pennsylvania State University student-athlete as well as reaching full potential in academics. The student-athlete has been recognized and acknowledged by their coaches and the athletic administration for their efforts through Penn State University Athletic Conference and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association action.

Through the month of January, the Penn State Greater Allegheny Athletic Department is pleased to announce that senior power forward Christina Floyd of the women’s basketball team has been recognized as the Penn State Greater Allegheny Female Student-Athlete of the Month.

The month of January saw seven games for the women’s basketball team, where Christina managed a total of 94 points scored and 99 boards pulled down, 44 of them being offensive. Floyd averaged 14 rebounds and 13 points per game as she went on to post a double-double in six of the seven appearances. The women’s basketball standout was highlighted for her efforts through the week of January 27th by not only the Penn State University Athletic Conference, but also the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.

“Christina is an extraordinary young lady who works very hard in the classroom and on the court,” said women’s basketball head coach Lou Zadecky. “Through a stressful senior year, Christina remains extremely determined in all aspects in her life.”
