In-person Commencement Information

All participants, both graduates and guests, are required to have a ticket.  No one will be admitted to the in-person ceremony without a ticket.  This process is necessary for the health and safety of our guests, and manages our venue capacity aligned with Pennsylvania Department of Health guidance.

Graduates will present their Grad Pass at the main door to the Wunderley Gymnasium.  The doors open at 12:00 p.m. Please arrive not later than 12:30 p.m.

Guests may enter through the main doors, or the rear doors, located down the hill from the White Parking Lot.  Guests please note:  your ticket was sent to your graduate.  Your graduate MUST print or email your ticket to you.   You will need to present the ticket for scanning before you can enter the gym and attend the ceremony.  No one will be admitted to the in-person ceremony without a ticket.

Once your ticket is scanned, Penn State Greater Allegheny staff will usher you to your reserved seat.

Properly Wearing Academic Regalia

Undergraduate academic regalia consists of blue gowns with wide sleeves and blue mortarboard caps with tassels. The uniform of the armed forces is the only other apparel officially recognized and permitted at commencement. Academic regalia is available for purchase at the Greater Allegheny bookstore. Gowns are available in regular and plus sizes. Please check your regalia for accuracy, quality, and fit before the day of the ceremony so that it can be exchanged, if needed.

Candidates for the baccalaureate and associate degrees should wear the tassel of the cap on the right front edge. Candidates must wear a gown and a cap with a tassel. The gown must be zipped in order to participate in the processional and ceremony.  Given the COVID-19 pandemic, all graduates are required to wear face masks.

Check Your Address

You will be receiving important graduation information in the mail, so it is important that your address is up to date. You can check your address on LionPATH. Make sure that both your local and permanent addresses are correct.  Important information is also sent to your PSU email, so check your email regularly and frequently.

Diplomas

If you wish to change the way your name will appear on your diploma, you should file a request for a name change promptly through the Registrar's Office.  All diplomas will be mailed from University Park to your permanent residence address approximately four weeks after the commencement ceremony. If your diploma was damaged in the mail, please return it to the Registrar's Office at University Park with a note saying it was damaged.
