Shenango Women's Volleyball Triumphs in First-Ever Playoff Game

SHARON, PA - In a historic moment for Penn State Shenango Athletics, the Shenango Women's Volleyball team secured a hard-fought victory over Penn State Greater Allegheny in their first playoff game of the renewed era with a thrilling 3-2 win (18-25, 25-20, 30-32, 25-18, 15-12), Shenango moves to an 8-17 record, advancing to the PSUAC Tournament Semifinals at University Park.

Leading Shenango's offensive charge was Cyra Cross, who put on a dominant display with 26 kills on 72 attempts, hitting at .222 efficiency. Cross was a force throughout the match, contributing 32 digs and finishing with a match-high 27.0 points. Fellow standout Sydney Ward added 16 kills on a .222 hitting percentage, along with three service aces, tallying 21.5 points and bolstering the team's presence on both offense and defense.

Setter Carla Ramirez Ortiz skillfully guided the offense with 26 assists, while Jade Shattuck contributed 32 assists. The two setters distributed the ball effectively, allowing for a balanced attack that proved pivotal in close sets. On defense, Kylee Loreno played a crucial role, notching 25 digs, while Gabby Villanueva Santos added another 25 digs along with three service aces. Shenango's collective defensive effort was evident in their 120 total digs, helping stymie Greater Allegheny's aggressive offense.

The team will now look to keep their momentum as they head to University Park, where they will face Penn State Hazleton in the semifinals on Monday, October 28th, at 5 PM.
