Beaver Volleyball Loses Thriller Against Greater Allegheny
Day 2 of the USCAA Tip Off Tournament brings exciting volleyball action to the Penn State Beaver Fieldhouse
Monaca, PA – Penn State Beaver Volleyball took on Penn State Greater Allegheny this afternoon in their third and final match of the USCAA Tip Off Tournament. This match was a good test for the women since it was the first conference opponent they played this season. The match went down to the wire going all 5 sets, but Greater Allegheny just barely got away with the win.
Beaver got off to a bit of a rocky start in the first set going down by a score of 19-8. Once Beaver started going on a run, they eventually brought the score back to 23-19. This late surge of points proved not to be enough as Greater Allegheny would take the first set 25-20. Once the second set started Beaver was able to tap into the momentum, they ended the first set with and battled through a back and forth set where teams were trading points. The score got all the way up to 17-16 in favor of Greater Allegheny when Beaver took over and scored the rest of the points in the set to win 25-17. The third set looked much like the second with both teams showing how much they wanted to win. The score made it to 16-15 with Greater Allegheny having the advantage, but once again Beaver had a late surge of points to win the set 25-18. In the fourth set the Beaver women started slow giving up the first 11 points. Beaver answered quickly scoring the next 6 of 7, but that push was not enough to overcome the early deficit, and Beaver lost the set 25-12. The 5th set was a tough battle between the two teams going point for point, but Greater Allegheny had a late 4-1 run to end the match by winning the last set 15-11.
Beaver's player of the game was Juliana Butler (Franklin, PA) with 10 kills, 6 service aces, and 3 blocks.
