Softball Dominates Greater Allegheny, Walshaw Tallies 100th Career RBI

MCKEESPORT, Pa. - Kaely Walshaw (Dornsife, PA / Line Mountain High School) recorded her 100th career RBI in Penn State Schuylkill's doubleheader sweep against Penn State Greater Allegheny.

Game One: Penn State Schuylkill 24, Penn State Greater Allegheny 0

Schuylkill swiftly loaded the bases in the top of the first and notched their first run of the game as Alyssa Youst (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Blue Mountain High School) reached first base on a fielder's choice. With another walk by Schuylkill loading the bases once again, Mackenzie Carl (Tower City, PA / Williams Valley High School) drove in two runs. Carl, along with Walshaw, crossed home plate as Megan Marks (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Township High School) singled in two more Schuylkill runs, concluding the inning with a total of five.

Schuylkill doubled their run count to ten in the following inning, securing a 10-0 lead. Emma Crisswell (Williamstown, PA / Williams Valley High School) singled to lead off the inning, followed by a walk to Youst. Walshaw's double brought both player's home. Carl singled on the next play and scored with Walshaw, while Tayla Jones (Pottsville, PA / Pottsville Area High School) reached base on an error.

Schuylkill continued to demonstrate strong hitting in the second inning as Marks hit a home run with Jones on first base, extending Schuylkill's lead to 11-0. Crisswell and Walshaw drove in runs, while a single by Carl added two more to their commanding lead, ending the inning with a total of seven hits.

Schuylkill extended their lead to 20-0 after scoring five runs in the third inning. Youst hit a double in the inning, while Marks and Carl hit singles.

Singles in the top of the fourth inning by Miranda Hess (Milton, PA / Milton High School) and Youst brought in two more runs for Schuylkill. Two additional runs for Schuylkill in the top of the fifth, as a walk by Melanie Torrales (Allentown, PA / William Allen High School) and an infield fly by Youst, gave them a 24-0 advantage.

Carl finished 4-5 at bat with four RBIs. Also tallying four RBIs was Youst who finished 2-4 at bat with a double. Marks went 3-4 at bat with a home run hit and five RBIs. Crisswell and Walshaw hit doubles while both finishing perfect at bat.

Crisswell pitched 3.0 innings, striking out eight. Hess pitched in 2.0 innings, allowing only one hit.

Game Two: Penn State Schuylkill 17, Penn State Greater Allegheny 0

Schuylkill's successful start in the first game carried over to the second game as Jade Weiss (Pottsville, PA / Pottsville Area High School) singled and swiped second base, then crossed home plate as Marks singled her in. Consecutive singles by Jones and Carl, along with a walk by Walshaw, earned Schuylkill three additional runs.

Jones stole home on the next play, extending Schuylkill's lead to 4-0. A walk by Keira Devor (Lewisberry, PA / Red Land High School) and a sacrifice fly by Weiss added two more runs. With the bases loaded for Schuylkill, Marks hit her second homer of the day, giving Schuylkill a 10-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first.

Schuylkill added one run in the second inning as Morgan Kleckner (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg Area High School) tripled with Youst on first base. Consecutive singles by Carl and Walshaw in the top of the third added three more runs to their total. Devor's homer in the top of the fourth extended Schuylkill's lead to 13-0. Singles by Brittany Kozlosky (Shenandoah, PA / Shenandoah Valley High School), Cealinn McGroarty (New Boston, PA / Mahanoy Area High School), and Alivia Payne (Dover, PA / Northeastern High School) drove in runs in the top of the fifth. Schuylkill earned their final run of the contest as Hess reached first on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded.

Marks and Devor homered for Schuylkill. Kleckner hit a triple while Torrales hit a double in the victory. Marks led the team with five RBIs. Walshaw contributed three RBIs for Schuylkill. Walshaw went the distance on the mound, striking out eight while allowing only one hit.

Schuylkill (17-11 overall, 9-7 PSUAC) will conclude their west division road trip as they travel to Penn State Fayette on Saturday.
