In a thrilling five-set match, Penn State Shenango (3-7, 2-0) secured a comeback victory against Penn State Greater Allegheny (3-5, 1-1) with scores of 17-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22, and 15-13. Shenango rallied from a two-set deficit to earn their second consecutive conference win of the season.
Sophomore setter Carla Ramirez Ortiz was the engine for the Shenango offense, dishing out 42 assists and contributing 12 digs and three service aces. Ramirez Ortiz also showed her versatility at the net, adding three kills with a .333 hitting percentage. Outside hitter Kylee Loreno led the offensive charge with 15 kills on 47 attempts, posting a .234 hitting percentage. Loreno's presence from the service line was equally impactful, notching two aces to go along with 10 digs and one solo block, finishing the night with 18.0 total points.
Cyra Cross provided a significant offensive boost as well, tallying 13 kills. Though Cross had six hitting errors, she made up for it with her all-around play, adding 14 digs, one service ace, and two solo blocks to amass 14.0 total points. Sydney Ward and Jill Dunleavy each contributed key points at the net. Ward had six kills with a .200 hitting percentage and added four blocks for a total of 11.0 points, while Dunleavy chipped in six kills and four block assists, totaling 11.0 points.
Defensively, Shenango was solid with Bella Audia and Gabby Villanueva Santos leading the backline with a combined 10 digs. Shenango's aggressive blocking at the net was evident, with 11 total blocks, including four solo efforts.
