Winning Streak Ends for Beaver in Devastating Loss to Greater Allegheny
Mckeesport, PA - The Women's basketball team was on the road today taking on Penn State Greater Allegheny. This is yet another PSUAC rematch this season. Earlier in the season, Beaver beat Greater Allegheny 81-75.
The start of the game was not bad for Beaver. They were able to come out getting an early bucket. Greater Allegheny immediately responded and the game remained close throughout the first. Both teams went back and forth getting buckets. Greater Allegheny finished the first quarter with 25 points and Beaver finished with 22. The second quarter went much better for Beaver. They were able to get into their groove and put the basketball into the hoop. Their defense forced Greater Allegheny to turn the ball over. Beaver's defense also kept Greater Allegheny from scoring under 15 points in the second quarter. Beaver closed out the quarter with 37 points and kept Greater Allegheny to 36 points.
The third quarter was the roughest one for Beaver. Greater Allegheny was able to force Beaver to turn the ball over, and got easy buckets off the fast break. Greater Allegheny was also able to get buckets from behind the arc. Beaver had a hard time executing plays on the offensive end and finishing at the basket. This changed the whole outcome of the game for Beaver. Greater Allegheny finished the third quarter scoring 32 points and held Beaver to only scoring 11. Going into the last quarter of the game, Greater Allegheny was up by 20 having 68 points and Beaver having 48. Beaver was bale to play better defense in the fourth quarter, but could not close the gap of the game. They had a hard time finishing at the basket which kept them down by 20 for most of the fourth. Beaver traveled back home with a devastating loss 90-71.
Sophomore Kiera Baker (Houston, TX) finished the game with 22 points, 2 blocks, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists. Junior Kyra Seggewiss (Calgary Alberta, Canada) finished with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Freshman Daniela Guzman (Plainview, TX) finished with 9 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds.
