A continuous downpour moved through the Cocoa Beach, FL region, but it could not put a damper on the recent play of the Penn State Greater Allegheny baseball program. Mother nature pushed back the start to 7:00 p.m. as Greater Allegheny went on to sweep Miami-Middletown 5-2 and 9-2.
In game one, Freshman Jeff Ziegler (West Mifflin) pitched 6 solid innings while striking out eight batters. Senior Nate Raffle (GCC) picked up 2 hits and an rbi. Sophomore Matt Bradburn (Baldwin) doubled and also picked up an rbi in the victory. Freshman Zak Schmidt (Moon) also knocked in two runs with a double in the fourth inning.
In game two, Freshman Dan Laird (Steel Valley) picked up his first college victory, pitching 6 innings and fanning 11 batters. Freshman Scott Dierdorf (Hopewell) went 3-4, with a solo home run in the sixth inning. Freshman Adam Wehr (Northwestern) picked up two hits, including a two run triple.
The Lions improve to 6-1 on the year. Greater Allegheny will be back in action tomorrow as they take on Rochester College (MI) in a double header, first pitch is 11:00 a.m.
